Cultural sensitivity Some cultures are sensitive to the recording of certain types of information. For instance, some tribes of Australian Aborigines forbid the viewing of images of dead people. Australian Aborigines request that pages with pictures of deceased Aboriginal people be clearly marked as such so that the user can choose if they wish to view the page
- There is no single Aboriginal culture - Aboriginal society is very diverse.
- Aboriginal culture is dynamic - it is not the same as it was in 1788.
- Torres Strait Islanders are a separate group with their own distinct identity and cultural traditions.
Significant issues in the cultural identity of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people include:
- kinship.
- recognition and respect as a distinctive people.
- relationship to land and sea.
- preservation of customs, laws and language.
