Despicable!
The word used by Pope Benedict the 16th to describe the kidnapping of Chaldean Catholic Archbishop Faraj Rahho. In a ruthless attack on the Archbishop of the minority Catholic community of Iraq, three of the Archbishop’s entourage were gunned down, and Faraj Rahho was kidnapped at gunpoint. No word on the wellbeing of the Archbishop has been received so far, but grave fears are held for his safety in a country well known for political and religious violence.
The news has caused great consternation in the catholic world and is likely to create great tensions between the Islamic Faith and the Catholic Church. Whilst the Vatican has been a voice of restraint and discourse with Islam via its influence in the western world, the kidnapping is likely to have far reaching implications in the psyche of the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics.
The news has spread fast on the internet via chat rooms, and already Catholic rooms on Yahoo! Chat have refused to dialogue with any Muslims until the Bishop is safely returned to his family and community. The outrage of Catholics on the internet has only been heightened by the refusal of Muslim chatters to apologise or even acknowledge any wrong-doing of the armed bandits who kidnapped the Iraqi prelate.
Grave fears
Grave fears are held for the well-being of the Bishop who was elected to the role in 2001. No word has so far been received as to whether the Bishop is alive or not, and the Holy Father has called for his immediate release, and the prayers of the Catholic world for the man whose life hangs in the balance tonight at the hands of Muslim extremists.
